2. Running Single Matches
Single matching is what most people are used to doing. One segment match file contains all the segment matches for one person.
The general technique for single match painting is to find the people you know the MRCAs for, and to "paint" those ancestors onto those segments. Tools like DNA Painter are usually used to do the painting.
DMT can give you the information about the segments that can be painted. It can also produced a summarized file that DNA Painter can load with your ancestor's segments.
To run single matches with DMT, do the following:
-
Ensure your segment match file for Person A is listed in the File A box. Find it with the
button.
-
-
Optionally select
if you want a DNA Painter file produced.
-
Leave both
and
unchecked, and press the
button.
You can press the
button to take you to the directory where the Person A segment match file is, which is also where the result will be.
DMT will produce a results file in Excel format that contains a Chromosome Map page and a People page, a Log file in text format, and optionally a DNA Painter file in comma delimited format. The name of the result files identify Person A for you.
The Chromosome Map page will look like this:
The top section with blue and green shades are all the single segment matches as large or larger than the Min Single cM limit on Chromosome 1 with any Person C who has their MRCA assigned to their father's side.
The second section with yellow and orange shades are all the single segment matches as large or larger than the Min Single cM limit on Chromosme 1 with any Person C who has their MRCA assigned to their mother's side.
The third section with purple shades are all the single segment matches as large or larger than the Min Single cM limit on Chromosome 1 with any Person C who does not have their MRCA assigned to either their father or mother's side.
The fourth section with grey shades are all the small single segment matches smaller than the Min Single cM limit on Chromosome 1 with any Person C, including those who have their MRCA assigned.
This will continue down the page in the same way with Chromosome 2, then 3, all the way to 22 and X.
Note that since these are single matches, there is no Person B in column B. These are just Person A versus Person C matches.
The People page will look like this:
The top section with blue, green, orange and yellow shades are all the people with MRCAs or clusters assigned. They are followed by everyone else with cluster U (unassigned) or X (people with all matches smaller than the Min Single cM limit).
