Log File

Every time you press the Run button, the DMT program displays progress information about the run in the "Messages" area of DMT's main window.

DMT also creates a log file that documents the above progress information. The log file summarizes the run and includes the details of any errors encountered and the processing that has taken place.

Log files are not needed by Double Match Triangulator. They are created by DMT to provide you more information about your results. Feel free to delete the log files if you feel you have too many of them or if they are getting in your way.

Log files are saved in Folder A along with the DMT Excel Output files.

For single runs, the log file is named:  DMT_aaaaaa_single_log.txt
For A vs B runs, the log file is named:  DMT_aaaaaa_bbbbbb_log.txt
For A vs all B runs, the log file is named:  DMT_aaaaaa_all_doubles_log.txt
For combined runs, the log file is named:  DMT_aaaaaa_combined_log.txt
where:
aaaaaa - is the identifier for Person A
bbbbbb - is the identifier for Person B

The DMT log file will be overwritten with new results when the same run is done again.

DMT log files can be viewed in Notepad or any other text editor. Here is how the beginning of a log file looks when opened in Notepad:

Below are details of the sections of information in the order that they are presented:

Header Section

The log file starts with the program version, licensee, the file it was saved to and the segment limits used for the run.

Person A Information

Information about Person A's segment file, including the file path, the number of people and segment matches, and how many are being used with the segment size limit that was set. Any data problems to note are preceeded by three asterisks ***.

The People File and MRCAs

The people file for Person A is read. The number of valid MRCAs you specified in the file will be shown. Illegal MRCAs that will not be used will be listed. If you have specified one or both of Person A's parents in the file using MRCAs of FR and/or MR, then DMT will confirm here that they were found.

The Processing DMT will do

The files DMT will process are listed. If Folder B is selected, then all the files to be processed will be listed.
For a combine all run (shown above), each file B s checked to see if that person matches Person A somewhere. If not, they will not be included since all people must match Person A in a combined run. Also, if DMT detects more than one segment match file for a Person B, it will use the newest file and skip the others.

Match File Processing Information for Each Pair of Files

Every run of File A with File B has its own processing summary. This will include a summary of what is in Person B's match file. Up to the first 100 data problems are displayed and well as a summary of them. The MRCA and matching segments between Person A and Person B are shown. If one or both parents are in Person A's match file, then additional parent processing is shown. A summary of the matches between Person A and Person B is provided.

Output File summary

Each output file will be listed.

DNA Painter File summary

If a DNA Painter output file was desired, the DNA Painter filename and path is shown. It also displays the total Mbp and percentage of each parents DNA that have been mapped to back to at least grandparents.

Extra Information in a Combine All Results run

A Combine All Results will summarize the F (father), M (mother), U (unknown), and X (excluded) segment matches of Person A, give the percentage excluded (X), and the number inferred, all by segment size.

People File summary

Tells you if the People File was updated. The MRCAs you had previously entered into the People File will be retained.

Completion Line

If the run completes normally, there should be a final processing summary line.
